Psalms 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
Yesterday was a rough day for former major champions at The Open Championship. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott were a combined 27 over par for the first round. Whenever we put faith in man, we will be disappointed sooner or later. Many only watch golf when Tiger or Phil is in contention. I must admit it is much more exciting. However, if we solely enjoy a sport when our favorite team or player is involved, there will come a time when we will lose interest in that particular sport. Players get old then retire or get traded to teams which we detest. Teams of dynasty win championships and then are broken apart due to players and owners seeking more beneficial contracts. In Hebrews 13:8, we can rejoice because Jesus is the same today as He was yesterday and will be the same tomorrow as He was today. He has no bad days and He does not change His mind. If we are saved today, by that same shed blood, we will be saved tomorrow. If He makes a promise to us, rest assure He will keep it. He is the same with His love toward His people. The gospel has its same effect upon the hearts of men. It has the same convicting spirit as it did generations ago. Lives will be changed, but the eternal hope and destination is still the same. The same love exhibited by Jesus during his time of earth is that same love he shows the believer today on a daily basis. His spirit comforts and guides while giving us a desire to tell others. Let us strive to be the same consistent believer today as we were when we first received him into our lives. The excitement today is the same because it is not dependent upon man.
