John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Logistics has always fascinated me. The fastest and most efficient way to deliver a good or product requires much planning and strategy. Weather and traffic patterns may make a longer route more efficient. Golf requires a certain amount of logistic considerations. Golfers internally ponder whether a par five or a drivable par four hole should be attempted to be reached in two or one shots respectively. There is usually an amount of risk involved in attempting to gain by way of a shortcut.

There is no shortcut or alternative means to God. Churches, religions, preachers, denominations, charity, and living a moral life do not give us standing before a Holy God. Each of these activities and endeavors are faulty and stained with sin. As good as each of them may be, they each still fall well short of being a righteous enough avenue to permit a sinful soul to approach the throne of God. Our access to have unfettered communion with God was forever disrupted by our sin.

Before Isaiah began his life as a prophet of God, he first came to a full realization of the holiness of God. In Isaiah 5:6, he exclaimed, “Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.” Isaiah was convicted of the presence of his unclean lips by the holiness of God. The presence of His holiness magnifies the stains of sin like the black lights used on crime dramas to reveal the presence of a blood stain.

Thankfully for the sake of any time we must spend in a hotel room, stains are not readily visible to the human eye. Our eyes have limitations. What we see as clean and pure is actually dirty and defiled in the eyes of a holy God. We must be purified before we can be found justified and accepted. Jesus became the only means of our salvation by His undefiled birth, life, death and resurrection. Even though He himself was sinless, He carried our sins when He freely submitted himself to be crucified on Calvary. He was always the only means for man’s salvation.

There are many means to church membership. Baptism, a letter from a church indicating a previous membership within a church body, and profession can gain a person full voting rights and membership within a local church body. However, Jesus tells us in John 14:6 that “no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jesus is the only means that we are justified before the Father. He is the only avenue that is logistically perfect!

The Holy Spirit directs us to submit our life and flight plan unto Him on a daily basis. As Paul told the church at Corinth, “I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.” 1 Corinthians 15:31. Let us rejoice in a Savior who continually cleanses us, instructs us and gives us a clear path for our journey.
