And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Most of us recognize that the pro shop is not the most economical place to purchase clubs or balls. The pro shops realize if a golfer is in need of such equipment immediately before playing a round, he or she is willing to pay a premium for such equipment. Therefore, the cost of a driver or a box of Pro-v1’s are inflated compared to the price you would find at a big box retailer. The clubhouse pays the same as the sporting goods store, but the markup on selling the product is much higher because of the consumer’s willingness to pay for the convenience. The same scenario is present at the movie theatre. A drink and a bag of popcorn may cost less than $2 on our own couch, but the refreshments will cost over $10 at the theatre because of the cost of convenience.
The cost of our salvation is free to the sinner, but costed the supplier everything. What a cost for our quick access was paid by our Savior! Notice in Exodus 12:12 when the Lord declared, ” for I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment.” The only escape from this executed judgment was to place blood on the door post of the house. The instant the house owners or those who occupied the house placed blood on the doorpost, the household was saved and judgment would “pass over.” The time prior to the presence of the blood, the house was to be subject to judgment. Therefore, as soon as we placed our faith in Jesus as Christ and Savior the blood was applied to our heart or “house”. Whenever judgment comes, it will swiftly pass over. This threat will not even pause and contemplate ruin for the occupant.
Not only do we have access to quick salvation, but we also have instant access to our Heavenly Father. In 1 Timothy 2:5, we are reminded, “for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” When we accept Jesus Christ as Savior, he is instituted as our mediator to the throne of God. Prior to the application blood of Christ, we had no access or right to approach His throne. Jesus does not have to make monthly payments for this access. There is no interest or balloon payment to be remitted. The provision of salvation and the remittance of sin was instantaneous by Jesus fulfilling the will of His father.
The cost of convenience is something we accept on a regular basis. Either we pay the cost or we do without balls during a round of golf or refreshment during the duration of a movie. The same is true with our acceptance of the cost paid for our salvation. If we don’t accept, we are destined for the soon executed judgment of our righteous God. However, as soon as we accept Jesus Christ and His blood is applied to our heart, He becomes our mediator and our name is written in the Lambs Book of Life. When our name is written in His blood, it signifies that our sin debt was “paid in full”!
