2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
In golf, scores “under par” are written in red while “over par” is denoted in black on the leaderboard. The deeper a golfer can go into red numbers, the stronger the play is considered. The same can be said for the Christian and the study of the Bible. The deeper we go into the “red letters” of the Bible, the stronger our ability to understand the hidden riches contained in it’s words. Understanding the Bible for some is as elusive as a sub-70 round in golf. Some of us do not have and will never have the athletic ability to make more birdies than bogies in a given round. However, being “versed” in the Bible requires the aid and assistance of the Holy Spirit which is only attained by Salvation. Without the Spirit, the reader will never be able to discern spiritual matters within a deeper study of scripture. Salvation will equip the believer with the tools necessary to be capable of understanding the word. The believer’s responsibility is to dedicate himself/herself to regular reading and study of the Word while praying for guidance and wisdom. My prayer today is for His guidance daily and to have the desire to read His word to build a stronger relationship with Him. My prayer for you is that you have accepted Christ as you personal Savior and will strive to gain the wisdom contained in the “red letters.”
