Psalms 84:10
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Many times when the group is not playing well, someone will invariably say “this still beats working.” Its sometimes hard to accept because there are days on the golf course, I wish I was in the office. However, in all honesty one day on the golf course makes the rest of the work week bearable.
The golf course, on the lake fishing, or in the woods hunting are some of the places and ways in our present life we are able to escape the stresses of life. We have the ability to escape away from our smart phones and the pleasure to forget our day to day stresses. However, reality returns soon after we return the golf cart and get back to our truck. Our phone immediately alerts us of text messages and emails awaiting our attention.
The Pslamist proclaimed that one day worshipping God and being in the spirit of His presence with our fellow brother and sisters will be better than a thousand days in a sin-filled world. Further, it is desirable just to be inside the fringes or a doorkeeper in heaven than in the midst of the sinful world. Similarly, a present life lived outside His presence is filled with turmoil, strive, worry and discontent. The joys of being within His presence are everlasting. Unlike in this world when we return to the office on Tuesday, there will no longer be temporal happiness when we will forever abide in His house. What a privilege it is to have this eternal promise from our Savior!
